Bentec Custom-Made Furniture Brings Modernity and Comfort to a Home Renovation in the Porto Alegre Metropolitan Area

While developing an interior design project for external clients can be a challenge for an architectural professional, when the goal is to renovate one’s own home, the level of demand increases exponentially. Architect Jéssica Batista found herself in this situation in mid-2022, when she began planning the renovation of her family’s future home, a 1999 building located in the municipality of Canoas.

With this in mind, the architect wanted to give the spaces a new look, bringing in modern touches while always combining functionality and elegance to welcome and comfort the family, maintaining the original structure of the house, such as pillars and some finishes, valuing its history and making room for something new.

At this point, the idea of revitalization emerged. “The renovated house fits the retrofit concept, as we kept the existing structures, but other elements, such as flooring, ceilings, and window frames, were changed. This project was, without a doubt, the most special I have ever done, not only because it was my own residence, but also because of the house’s complexity.

The most important thing for anyone opting for this type of renovation is a proper technical assessment of the structures, because if they are well-dimensioned and free of cracks, we can have a world of possibilities,” says Jéssica.

Bentec, a longtime partner of the architect, was chosen to create the furniture, with custom pieces in all the rooms. “Jéssica works on signature projects dedicated to creating unique spaces, taking into account every detail. Because she already knows Bentec’s versatility, choosing the brand was a natural decision, right from the conception of the Retrofit Project. This way, we further strengthened our partnership with the professional,” says Maira Galvan, Store Manager of Bentec Bento Gonçalves.

The Retrofit concept is most prominent in the attic: a room often found in older homes, renovated to become fully functional and used by the family, with space for an office and playroom.

The original built area was 350m², but the project went beyond that. Rather than simply redesigning spaces like the attic into a functional family area, with a playroom and TV room, or redesigning the private bedroom and bathroom area, a second residence was built at the back of the property—all in just 18 months.

According to Maira, the project has a contemporary concept without sacrificing the comfort and coziness desired for family moments, striking a balance between the use of light colors, metallic touches, and wood finishes. Due to the short timeframe, the team required a greater commitment. From the beginning of development, design alignment, measurement verification, finishing definitions, and fine adjustments, to the start of assembly, it took approximately 30 days.

The synergy between the Bentec team and architect Jéssica resulted in a flawless and tasteful execution. Now complete, I feel a sense of gratitude, as all the effort, dedication, and commitment led to an impeccable result.

Jéssica confirms that the unconditional trust she has in Bentec left her completely worry-free while caring for her newborn son while the renovation was underway: “The girls at the store were tireless with us. From the beginning, when we hadn’t even detailed the project yet, Bentec simply embraced me and handled all the technical aspects, making my work easier and leaving me feeling at ease and very happy when we received everything exactly as I had envisioned,” concludes the architect.
